I don’t only do sales, but also contribute ideas to product development

In my previous job, I worked for a trading company that was an ACSL distributor and sold drones to client companies as a sales representative. I have been involved with the drone industry for eight years now.
In the past, industrial drones were not well known, and most of our customers were government agencies. Most of their needs were for disaster response. For example, in a prefecture where a nuclear power plant is located, we worked with a partner company to build a system that would allow more than 20 drones to fly from the prefectural government office at the touch of a button to assess the damage in the event of a major earthquake.

Drones can help people in times of emergency. Having pursued this possibility, I have come to want to see the growth and technological innovation of Japanese drones more closely. However, there were limits to what I could do in a trading company that is only in the position of selling. As drones are implemented in society, I want to reflect my ideas in product development, not just sell them. I want to play a part in changing people's future by delivering my ideas. With this in mind, I left the trading company and joined ACSL.

Easy-to-understand explanations to clients, which are a result of not having a technical background

Business Operations/Customer Relation team, to which I belong, is a sales department that communicates closely not only with end-user companies, but also with the distributors who act as intermediaries. Developing new business is an extremely important mission in spreading the value of industrial drones. We continue steady activities such as visiting clients in various regions and sometimes conducting demonstration tests together with clients. Within the company, we often make proposals to the R&D team based on the client's opinions. In other words, I am now able to work as a project manager, not just a salesperson.

I am not an engineer, so I do not understand source code, etc. I often encounter words I know for the first time in my work. That is why I am interested in new technologies and approaches and try to actively learn them. The role of a sales representative is to explain the functions and results sought by the client in a concise manner. In this respect, the fact that I do not have a background in technology is probably helpful.

Unprecedented project to fly industrial drones over central Tokyo

One of the most memorable moments of my work at ACSL was flying a drone over central Tokyo. This was a major project involving the government and major corporations, and it was an unprecedented effort to fly an industrial drone over central Tokyo to transport goods. The demonstration experiment was therefore a series of hardships. Tokyo has many layers of radio waves, so we had to pay close attention to drone control and operation. As drones fly in the sky, there is also the risk of crashes. Flying over the densely populated city center was a big challenge.

This PoC (Proof of Concept) was completed in early 2022, and now steps are finally being taken toward commercialization. Although there are still many issues to be addressed, once realized, the system will be able to deliver goods in less than half the time compared to conventional land transportation. I feel that only ACSL, which has the best track record in Japan, can be involved in a project like this that will revolutionize society in cooperation with the government and large corporations.

Advancing horizontal collaboration without being bound by organizational chart

New technologies are emerging in the drone industry every day. The most rewarding thing for me is to think of concrete measures to implement these technologies in society and to be present at the scenes where society is changing. In the near future, I hope to be able to boast to my children, "Dad worked on that flying drone.”

ACSL plans to evolve its development, manufacturing, and sales schemes with the aim of mass-producing industrial drones in the future. I would like to continue to communicate actively with the product planning and development teams, and eventually become a person who can contribute to management as well. At ACSL, we have a culture of promoting horizontal collaboration without being bound by organizational charts, to fulfill our clients' needs and maximize the value of drones. I would like to make the most of this environment and eagerly take on challenges that I think are necessary.
